Last week I had a couple of Quick Paint Rate Users ask if Quick Paint Rate could calculate painting rates for Keim specifications, where the coverage of the paint is given in kg/m2?

Answer:  YES

For example:

Let’s say you are to apply Keim Soldalit to external walls.

Keim state that the consumption rate for Soldalit is 0.45kg/m2 (for two coats)

This means that the Soldalit consumption for ONE coat is 0.45kg divided 2 = 0.225kg/m2.

So when using Quick Paint Rate, in Q5 (Basic Decorative System To Be Applied?), you will select 2nr. Coat system from the specification options.

Following this in Q6.2 (Material Prices), you will have to enter pack cost and coverage for each of the two coats.

So, let’s say you want to base your rate on a 5kg tin of Keim Soldalit (pack size).  For each coat you will enter your purchase cost for the 5kg pack (5kg cost will vary according to the colour selected:  Keim band their colours as Group 1, 2, 3 or 4.  Group 1 is a pastel colour (cheapest) and Group 4 is a deep colour (most expensive).

Next, and here’s the important bit:  To calculate the coverage of the 5kg pack for each coat:

5KG divided by 0.225kg/m2 = 22.22m2/5kg.

This does not allow for any wastage, so I would suggest for practical purposes, you reduce this coverage by 5%-10%.

In this example I have allowed 10% wastage so,

Practical Coverage (per coat) of 5kg pack  = 20m2/5kg.

Hope this helps, but if you have any queries, don’t forget, with Quick Paint Rate you get full telephone estimating support, so just give us a call.

Kind regards,
